NEWSFLASH

RIVERSIDE UNIFIED STUDENTS GAIN INSIGHT INTO HOW TO BECOME MORE CIVICALLY ENGAGED AT RUSD CIVIC SHOWCASE

May 12, 2023

Riverside Unified students held their annual Civic Showcase and Spring Soapbox event.

Each year, RUSD students complete civic engagement projects that allow them to connect areas of study that are relatable to them. These projects may apply to science, technology, engineering, policy, economic, social, environmental, or other areas where society intersects with academics.

At the event, students have the opportunity to showcase these projects with members of the community. They are encouraged to engage in conversations that highlight what they have learned.

In addition, the Spring RUSD Soapbox event happens simultaneously. It is a space where students can deliver powerful speeches that address the question, "What is the biggest issue facing your community, and what should be done about it?"

"Thank you to the community members who came out to engage with our students," said Carolyn Power, Instructional Services Specialist. "These experiences and conversations help solidify the value of research, questioning and provide a vision of how to take action in society."
